Urusi Lacquer painting (Uwanuri as Top Coat, Shita-nuri as Undercoats) Uwanuri is the most careful application technique, and is finished using a method called "hana-nuri" or "nuri-tate" as a distinctive feature of Yamanaka lacquer.
Simply put, this is a method of applying Urusi lacquer beautifully to any surface, whether it is glossy, matte, or colored. It takes great skill and experience to paint the Urusi lacquer completely without leaving any dust or uneven brush marks. It is often compared to the Roilo finish, typified by Wajima lacquer, which is a Urusi lacquer finish that is polished to a glossy finish.
The undercoats (painting in the middle process) are also applied here.
There are various specialized tools such as a hand-cranked potter's wheel, paint brushes, and a rotating drying shelf.
